Sorry, Everyone

I'm sad to say, that after 34 days I'm pulling the plug on the 2012 Utah Beer Challenge. I apologize to RedRock, Desert Edge and their crews for cancelling the challenge at the eleventh hour, but knowing these guys as well I as I do, neither camp would want to be associated with a tainted win.

Personally, this really blows. It's not like this is the equivalent of digging ditches, but it did eat up a lot of personal time and limited brain cells. As for the guy who screwed it up for everyone, thanks for the turd in the punchbowl.

Since I spent precious pillow time making awards, here are the winners certificates. Two great beer that deserved better. Please enjoy a UPA or an Elephino soon. They deserved to be here.

You made the right decision Mikey. It's just astonishing how some people decide to fuck with things.

Congrats to both beers for being awesome! And thanks for all your hard work. It wasn't a waste - this was fun for us anonymous interwebbers. Thanks!

Thanks contest Mikey, it was fun. To bad someone screwed it up for everybody else. That's the problem with people these days, they only think about themselves.

First of all, both beers are awesome. Fact proven by their making it to the finals.

Second, the person was running Safari on a Linux box? Way to taint the open source goodness. That alone is a red flag ;) And then they had to be just a general jerk as well.

Bummer.
This has been fun to follow.

Just curious: who was receiving the illegitimate votes?

I watched this guy dump 40+ votes in just as many minutes for D.E. And that's just while I was watching. D.E. had no part in it.

I've enjoyed following this and am bummed to see it end this way. But, seriously, what an absurd thing to waste time cheating on. Wish we could have seen which beer would have won the thing legitimately.

how far back have you looked for anomalies?

WAIT no i have better idea!
we get all the big teams together and make a solemn pact to vote with public media and pros and such (maybe some of that newfangled computer ranking stuff too) and it will all come together with no bias at all cuz the little guys will lose anyway and we call it the BCS (Beer Championship Series)then we form 5 match ups with the top 10 beers and the top 2 beers meet in the BCS Utah championship game. And just to make sure no funny business we contractually force all the dudes from the Utah brewers association to vote the winner the champion.

Brilliant!

I wondered how DE could actually even contend with all of the other great beers. Now I know.
