As the warm weather slowly approaches the crew at RedRock Brewing Company will be offering up a new limited release that's designed specifically for the summer heat. RedRock's Summer Ale is special Pale ale that will be brewed with tangerine and grapefruit peel.
The citrus peel will enhance the hops used that already have a similar natural bitterness. No release date has been announced yet. This beer will come in at 4% ABV and be packaged in RedRock's 500ml. bottles.

RedRock Franconian Rauchbier
Fans of Smoked lagers rejoice! RedRock Brewing Company is looking to bring a little bit of Bamburg, Germany to your fridge and favorite watering hole.
The Franconian Rauchbier will be a classic take on the German style Rauchbiers (Smoke Beer). Rauchbiers are typically dark in color and are similar to Oktoberfestbiers in sweetness. This beer will be made with birch wood smoked malts, that will give the lager a toasted grain and bacon like aroma. Imagine a smokiness so robust, so assertive, that it takes on the caracter of barbecue.
The Franconian will come in at 5.7% ABV and will be packaged in RedRock's German inspired 500ml bottles. We'll spread the word as it's release date draws near.
Prost!

New Beer Friday 11/6/15
There's a ton of goodness today on New Beer Friday - This week there will be a special radio version of New Beer Friday as well on KBER 101. Should be on around 3:30pm. We'll be spreading the "beer love" to the masses. Tune in if you can!
Uinta Holiday Cutthroat - looks like good ol' Cutthroat. The noses spicy with cinnamon and nutmeg some piney hops as well. The taste starts with more spices - cinnamon and spruce tips. Clove comes in next with a bit of malt. The end is all pine bitterness. Finishes quite dry. 4.0% ABV @ Uinta now and should be popping up at grocery stores and bars with a Uinta seasonal tap
Annex Session Razz - This is the third version of Epic's successful Brainless on Raspberries Ale. The second version is Lil' Brainless Raspberries a 5.2% version - now we have the Session Razz a 4% Session Ale. Session Razz Pours a clear ruby/fuchsia color with an average pinkish cap of foam. The fruit and the yeast are the stars here. First off - you get subtle tart raspberries up front. There is some hint of thin malts as well. Spicy/estery yeast take it from there, providing a nice counter to the berries. Refreshing and satisfying for a low abv fruit beer. highly recommended. 4.0% ABV @ The Annex - Beer Bar
Squatters Rauchbier -Not tried this one yet. 4.0% ABV
Squatters Hazelnut Brown - Not tried this one yet. 4.0% ABV On Cask
Shock Top Pumpkin Wheat - Pours into a hazy amber/orange color with an off white head. The nose was spicy with cinnamon and nutmeg. The taste follows the nose with heavy nutmeg and cinnamon with a fair amount of wheat and malt balance. For what it is, this is this not a bad pumpkin ale. You could do much worse in the market. 4.0% ABV @ Grocery/Convenienc Stores
Zion The Local Peach - Described as a Saison with tart peach character. Some funky yeast spiciness as well. 4.0% ABV @ Zion Canyon Brewpub
Zion Pumpkin Please -Described as being subtly spiced with a thin to medium mouth feel. 4.0% ABV @ Zion Canyon Brewpub
Epic Session Series IPA - This is a new series that will be coming from Epic. This Session IPA is basically a 4% version of Escape to Colorado. It has a wonderfully, pungent citrsy nose with a light quenching body. All mosaic hops in this beer. 4% ABV @ The Annex - Beer Bar and pubs with Annex tap handles.
Estrella Damm - Pours a pale straw color with a medium white head. The nose is mostly grain and malt. The flavor starts with grassy hops then transitions to malty sweetness. It's semi dry in the finish. Not to bad for an adjunct lager. 5.2% ABV @ Beer Bar
Estrella Inedit wit - Pours a hazy straw gold color with a spicy nose of coriander and cloves, banana, sweet malt. The taste follows with more coriander and light clove, The end has a healthy dose of sweet maltis. Fairly light body. Pretty good but not mind blowing. 4.8% ABV @ Beer Bar
RedRock Dortmunder - Pours a deep golden color, with an inch and half thick head. The nose is bready, followed by small amounts of aherbal grassy hops. The taste starts with strong malts and toasted bread, then finishes with a mild grass bitterness. Medium bodied, yet very crisp and refreshing, smooth feel alll the way through. @ RedRock and better beer bars
Returning Favorites
RedRock Secale - This barrel aged lager has a bock base with some rye malt spicing up sweetness. And if that wasn't enough, they finished it off in High West Rye whiskey barrels. This is one damn fine barrel aged bock. Don't miss out on this one.
Deschutes Jubelale - As basic spiced holiday ales go, this beer delivers on all levels. Chicory, molasses and figs. Oh yeah!
Sierra Nevada Celebration - It's not the holidays at Utah Beer Central without this yearly favorite. Straight forward, wonderful American IPA.
Ninkasi Dawn of the Red - Get this while they're still fresh. Citrusy hops, fruity malts - delicious!
Uinta Yard Sale lager - A clean and semi-malty amber lager.
RedRock Secale - Malty and spicy with a rye whiskey backbone. Brilliant!

RedRock's New Dortmunder Fest Beer
RedRock Brewing has added a new beer into their "high gravity" line up! The Dortmunder Fest beer is a classic German style lager is know as a working class beer that was first conceived of the 19th century. Dortmund style lagers are pale golden in color with a dry hoppy/biscuity nose that exhibit a classic clean character full-bodied with a subtle maltiness and a
sturdy mouth-feel. They're akin to the traditional German Pilsner with a with an overall dry tone and presence.
RedRock's is made with 100% German Pilsner, Munich and specialty malts from Germany's Weyermann Maltsters. It dials in at 5.4% ABV. and is availble now at RedRock's Beer Store (443 N 400 W).
I'll try to have a review on it by Friday.

RedRock Session Holiday Ale
RedRock has will be adding a new Holiday beer to their bottled beer portfolio in the coming months. This new Holiday Ale is a little brother to Giswald's Big Holiday Ale that RR offers every year. Holiday Ale is session beer brewed with cinnamon, coriander, ginger, clove and orange
peel. Look for it in RedRock's 500ml bottles. 4.0% ABV.
RedRock has a deal with Harmon's Grocery stores to sell their beer. I'm not sure yet if this beer will also be exclusive to Harmon's. We'll let you know.
Cheers!

RedRock's New Fröhlich Pils
Prescription Pils. That's what we were supposed to be talking about this morning, but the gubment said, "no, no, no you don't". Ya see, the happy - beer loving kids at RedRock Brewing have this brilliant new brew coming out for you to enjoy, but the branding fell apart. Prescription Pils apparently implies a "health benefit" to consumers. As often happens in these situations serendipity stepped in perform damage control and the world is a better place for it.
So the RedRock crew, knowing that the government only speaks english, came up with the idea to change the name to "Happy Pils" (get it) and just to make sure they wouldn't have a problem with that - "Happy" took on it's German wording Fröhlich and now we have Fröhlich Pils! It's great name, don't you agree?
The ABV is 5.5% and is packaged in RedRocks signature 500mL bottle.
Fröhlich Pils will be available beginning Thursday at all Red Rock Brewing pubs and the Red Rock Beer Store located at 443 North 400 West.
If you've fallen away from the classic pilsners now is the perfect time to start. There are many new local pilsners floating around the market and this a perfect lager to start with.
Prost!

Here's a link for all of the winning beers http://www.worldbeercup.org/ winners
Part One of Round 2 in the Utah Beer Challenge is over - Part Two of Round 2 begins today. Not too many surprises as far as the voting is concerned. I think Moab's Hopped Rye would have fared better if it was more widely available around the state (hint, hint).
Here's the breakdown from the last round of votes.
Cheers!

New Beer Friday 3/14/14
There was only one new beer that I could find today and your gunna love it!
RedRock Imperial Red Ale - For their 20th Anniversary RedRock came up with a brilliant tasting take on "irish-ish" styles. Big ruby tones with a sturdy ruddy head. the nose pops with toasted caramel & pine. The tastes starts with toasted bread, tobacco and a hint of fudge. Big pine resin comes next with bitter chocolate and a hint of orange in the end. The finish is dry and bitter. This is a full flavored beer that crosses into barlewine territory. While it's 9.5% ABV is well hidden - it will put the hammer on you if your not paying attention. @RedRock locations
Since this is a St. Patrick's Day weekend, I thought I'd throw a few local non green beer option for you.
Roosters Cyclops Irish Stout - Then nose is roasty with, chocolate and herbal and flowery hops. The taste is dark malts, bittersweet with a mild hop background. Very light smoke and nutty qualities on the finish. A nice seasonal from Roosters. 4.0% ABV @Roosters
Squatters McGruhes Dry Irish Stout - Black with a thick creamy tan "nito head". The nose rich with espresso and roasted biscuit The taste starts with coffee then turns to espresso. Heavily roasted malt come next with a nutty/smokiness in the end. Mild hops come late and provide a slightly dry finish.4.0% ABV @Squatters
Bonneville Irish Twins - Part Irish stout, part Irish red, served only this month. Sweet malt and caramel up front and the dry, roasty finish of a stout. Very limited quantity only available at the brewery. 4,0% ABV
Wasatch Brew Pub's Jalapeno Cream Ale - Not a traditional Irish beer, but the only green thing in your beer should be Jalapenos! @Wasatch Brewpub/Beer Store
Hoppers Irish Baghandler - Hoppers Rockwell Porter and Irish Red blended together. The nose is of toasted malts, grain, piney hops. Taste follows the nose with grain bitterness hints of fruity malt and cocoa. Finishes clean, not overly dry. 4.0% @Hoppers
Avenues Proper Oatmeal Red - Copper in color with beige head. Bready malty nose. Toffee and light cocoa up front with biscuit, and subtle dark fruit rounding out the end. One of my favorite beers from AveProp! 4.0% ABV @Avenues Proper
Avenues Proper Sláinte Stout - This nitro pours black has a deep dark with a creamy vanilla head of foam. The nose is roasted with a sweet maltiness. The taste starts with dark roasted malts backed by sweet malts. A hint of sourness comes next with a cocoa bite rounding out the end. Nice depth for a 4% stout. @Avenues Proper

New Beer Friday 1/24/14
This month has been a pain in the ass for this poor, dry beer boy.
Luckily my self imposed beer hiatus is nearing the end. Trust me, my
appreciation for beer has never been greater and today's New Beer Friday is
like lemon juice on a paper cut. Please drink one or four for me.
Uinta Brighton Revolver: This is the second version in this rotational IPA offering from Uinta. The debut IPA killed, it was extremely drinkable and fresh tasting. Round two is a Black IPA. I don't have much info on it as I'm still on the wagon. :( It's available at Brighton Ski Resort of course and and some of the better beer bars around town. This also, being served from a Firkin at the Bayou. 4.0% ABV
RedRock White IPA: This is a new offering from RedRock. This White IPA was developed by RR brewer Chris Harlin and was just tapped yesterday. Only at RedRock downtown. RedRock's Poor Red Ale is back on tap as well. Both are 4.0% ABV
Avenues Proper Fire-pit Porter: This smoked chocolate porter was brewed with chocolate from APs neighbor, Hatch Family Chocolates! @Avenues Proper. 4.0% ABV
New Belgium 1554: Pours black. The nose is of toasted corn with dark chocolate and coffee. The taste is very, very dry, with coffee, the middle holds lots of sweet dark chocolate. 5.6% ABV
New Belgium Blue Paddle Pilsner: Pours a clear and golden with a dense white head. The nose is grassy and floral with hints of honey. Malt is slightly sweet off the top, then grassy hops come in along with some lemon zest and apple. The finish is crisp and smooth. Aftertaste is grassy with notes of lemon. 4.8% ABV
New Belgium Shift Pale Lager: The Nose Has soft grains and spicy, grassy hops. Nice flavor. The grainy bite of a lager met with the grassy hops of a pale. Maybe a touch of honey as well. Softly bitter, very clean, smooth and drinkable. 5.0% ABV
New Belgium Sunshine Wheat: The nose is zesty with lemon, coriander, citrus and malts. The taste follows suit with lots of spices, lemon and citrus. Some pear and banana notes in there as well. Light malt backbone and light hop flavors round out the end. 4.8% ABV
These New Belgium beers have been seen at a few DABC stores. Draper in particular. If you've seen them elsewhere please share.
Returning beers of note.
Desert Edge Brewing All The Way Alt is back. This one is a brilliant copper color with a strong malt flavor without being sweet. It also has a nice bitterness to pair with that malt flavor and end with a medium hop flavor. 4.0% ABV
Lagunitas Hairy Eyeball: It's good to see the Lagunitas seasonals are flowing into the market with some regularity. Hairy Eyeball has been absent from the Utah scene since 2011. I'm happy to see it back. Tastes like malt and fig with some chocolate notes. Finishes with some alcohol and some citrusy hops. It doesn't mesh as well as it probably could. Still, it's pretty damn tasty. @Beerhive - DABC? 9.4% ABV
Cheers!

9.4% ABV
Cheers!

RedRock's 2013 Secale Returns Today
One of my favorite locally made beers returns today! Secale.
This beer is a bock at it's base, but has the addition of rye malt and is aged in High West Rye Whiskey barrels. Secale pours a dark ruby color with a moderate two fingers of off-white head. The nose has a dry roasted malt aroma along with a light rye spiciness. It's rounded out with a mild caramel malt and vanilla aroma. The taste starts with Caramel malts and toffee. Chocolate covered raisins come next come next with a dry rye spiciness. Hints of vanilla and whiskey come next in the end, as well as a subdued hop bitterness that balances the malty sweetness in the finish. The body is full and the whiskey notes become a bit more pronounced as it warms. The 8.5% abv is well hidden but sneaks up you quickly.
It will be available to purchase later today at the Brewhhouse, and available at the downtown location tonight.

New Beer Friday 8/23/13
Just two new beers this week. One nice thing about them.... if your downtown, you'll only have to walk about a block to try them both.
Squatters Red Ryder: (Not to be confused with Tenaya Creek's beer Red Ryder) Starts with dry floral hops with hints of toffee and caramel. The rye adds a nice spiciness to the finish. @ Squatters locations
RedRock Origin: The flavor is a rich unique combo of berries, lime, lime and orange, on a saison-esque base beer. Very smooth and drinkable. @ RedRock Locations
Cheers!

New Beer/Firkin Friday 7/5/13
You can tell it's hot outside because all of our New Beer Friday beers are designed to quench!
Boulevard 80-Acre: The nose is full of lemon rind, grapefruit, and orange. The tastes is fresh with citrus, lemon, grapefruit and grape, moderately bitter, Not much for malt character, a hint of wheat. Finishes dry with faint pine. Definitely not your typical wheat beer. @ Liquor Stores
Zion Canyon 360 Ale: Don't have much info on this one. All I know is that it's a light citrusy session ale. Anyone tried it yet? @ Zion Canyon Brewing
Zion North Rim Hefeweizen: Again, not much info, I'm thinking it's a wheat beer? Please help if you've had it! @ Zion Canyon Brewing
Budweiser 3.5: Apparently this version of Bud was made for the Swedish market, starting a few years ago. It comes in at a whopping 3.5% ABV. Makes the local stuff (4%) look like malt liquor. I guess they figured, why not sell it in Utah & Oklahoma? they won't know the difference. @ Grocery/Convenience Stores
For Firkin Friday at the Bayou, RedRock 'be represent'n with an old school pale ale, infused with juniper, bitter orange peel, and if that doesn't peak your interest, it's dry hopped with simcoe hops. Yum!
tapping's are usually at 3pm.
Hoppy Beerday, Bryan!
Cheers!

Tap That Tuesday
RedRock Brewing is embracing the new cask revolution like a Hipster embraces irony. The boys & girls in the brewhouse are getting ready to enhance some of your favorite RR beers and it all begins today.
Starting at 4pm in the downtown brewpub, RedRock will be offering their Amber Ale, ala-firkin aged with oak spirals. The oak should impart a toasty & spicy character to the ale that should work well with ales caramel malt profile.
If you love the cask, support places like RedRock that are offering them or they may go, bu-bye.
Cheers!

New Belgium Finally Coming to Utah
I've been a bit of a beast in regards to New Belgium's shunning of Utah. It always seemed a bit odd that there was this huge Utah shaped hole in their western distribution map. Now after eight years of pissing and moaning, Fort Collins has given in and added the Utah market to their list of customers.
Some of you could give a shit, I personally think an expanded market is a good thing. Fat Tire is a popular entry level craft brand that locals will gobble - up and will hopefully introduce the average beer drinker to explore more local craft brews.
If you click on the image above you'll notice that New Belgium has produced a special label for the Utah market, the red banner above reads, "Sharing beers & boarders with the Beehive State". I'm sure Fat Tire is just the beginning of a long love affair with we locals and New Belgium Brewing.
If I sound like I'm an NB cheerleader, read some of my older rants on NB's subbing of Utah. I defiantly didn't pull any punches & I'm sure there are a few people in Fort Collins that think I'm quite a dick. I'll own that, I'm just happy we're all on the same page now.
I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge RedRock Brewing. Their relationship with NB over the years was integral part in getting the wheels greased.
By the way, thanks to everyone who made it out to the Big Ass Summer Solstice Beer Pow-wow. What a great time! I'll throw some photos up on the Utah Beer Facebook Page in the coming days.
Cheers!

New Beer Friday! 5/17/13
Nothing really new today, but one of my favorite Epic seasonals, Hop Syndrome returns today. Release #11 is a little different this time. It's hopped with whole leaf Aramis hops that
lends a spicy aroma. The addition of Lemon Drop
hops add a light fruitiness and accentuate the clean pilsner finish, or so I'm told. Available at Epic's bottle shop today.
Deschutes' Fresh Squeeze IPA may or may not make an appearance at the Beerhive today. Del said, his distributor had some and it's on it's way to him, but this beer is not currently in production, so I don't know what the Hell to think, if it does show up we'll let you know. He also mention a shload of Lagunitas seasonal have returned and should be available late this afternoon.
And a reminder of today's Craft Beer Week Events:
RedRock Brewing Co.

You thought I forgot that it's New Beer Friday, didn't you? Bohemian Brewing has something new to help ring in the warm weather
Noble Hefeweizen is a Bavarian-style hefeweizen. White wheat and Munich malts give this beer a rich, sweet body while staying light and easy to drink. But the star of the beer is the traditional yeast, originating from the Bavarian monastery of Andechs, adding banana, clove, and bubble gum characters. It's going to be hot this weekend, sounds like the perfect beer to enjoy in the sun!
Cheers!

Paarde-Deux
The long drought in between Paardebloem releases has finally come to an
end and this year we get a double-whammy of dandelion delightfulness!
If your new here or are unfamiliar, Paardebloem (Flemish for dandelion) was originally conceived of in 2009, by RedRock's "Beer Yogi", Kevin Templin & New Belgium Brewing's Chris McCombs.
In 2009 the beer world experienced a bit of a hop shortage. Popular hop varietals were tough to get or were becoming pricier than normal. Paardebloem was born from a need to brew convention beers with old world techniques. One of those techniques was using dandelion greens for bittering.
The beer was made, New Belgium called their version Dandelion Ale & RedRock went with Paardebloem. That wasn't the only difference, RR's went
into barrels with funky bugs for many months & NB's was Kegged
fresh. Four years later we have two different blended beers that are the
same... Makes sense?.... Right?
This evening (after 6pm) at all RedRock locations you'll be able to sample both versions of the collaborative beer that's finally a true collaboration. New Belgiam's is part of their popular Lips of Faith series & will be exclusively sold at RedRock for "in house" consumption. This is the first time a NB beer has been for sale legally in Utah. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.
Don't be that Douche or Douchette that misses out on this great thing that's happening in right in your own backyard or you'll be sad lil' beer geeks when they're gone.
