New Beer Friday 5/3/19

Hopkins - Sugar House Pilsner: Bready and slightly grainy taste that is mixed with a little bit of a sweet harvest and stone fruit tastes with a little bit of caramel. As the taste advances more, grassy and herbal hops hit the tongue with a little bit of a floral hop coming in as well. Smooth and crisp; it leaves a zip of bitterness in the finish. 4.0%. Available at Hopkins.

Hopkins - Guava Goddess: I'm guessing this is golden ale? It has a clean malt base and it has some citrus, melon and grassy hops. The guava emerges next and it works pretty well with the hops; creating a nice, but subtle fruitiness. 4.0%. Available at Hopkins

Red Rock - Bier De Mars:  The aroma is a mix of Belgian yeast esters, candi sugar, clove, caramelized malts, with a touch of bread and citrus. Taste wise it starts off with some sweet caramelized malts with some candi sugar and a bit of fruity Belgian yeast esters. Through the middle, a bit of dark fruit comes through alongside some anise and some farmhouse flavors. The finish is a mix of anise, plum, a bit of bready and caramelized malts, and some Belgian yeast flavors. 7.0%. Available Saturday at Red Rock's Beer Store.

Policy Kings - Policy Sam IPA: Missed this one. 4.0%. Available at Policy Kings.

Bohemian - Lagerpalooza Baltic Porter: This beer smells big of freshly brewed black coffee with dark chocolate playing a part as well. The taste starts with big coffee upfront fades slightly and combines with the dark chocolate to create a great flavor combination. The doughy malts join the coffee and chocolate mid-palate and while all these flavors work through to the swallow dark fruit makes it's appearance. This is great representation of the style.7.3%. Available at Bohemian on Sunday, May 5th.

UTOG - Sour Time: Missed this one. 4.0%. Available at UTOG

Toasted Barrel - Barrel Aged Flanders Red: The smell is very subdued, almost faint. There are some tart cherries, some vinegar sour notes and maybe some soft grape skins way down deep.
The taste is much more bold than the smell. The tart vinegar, sweet/sharp cherries and grape skins hit with a nice sour blast, but not too sour. A nice sugared candy sweetness comes in briefly towards the end; before the sharp lemon zest and tart cherries boomerang back. The beer finishes on a nice dry sour note. One of my favorites from Toasted Barrel. 6.3%. Available at Toasted Barrel.

Cigar City - Oatmeal Raisin Stout: Do you like oatmeal raisin cookies? If you do, this is a no brainer. My only description for you is that it tastes like oatmeal raisin cookies. It's simply scrumptious. 5.5%. Available at DABC and Bayou
