New Beer Friday 6/24/22

TF - Maxine Oenobeer: Grapey/Vinious aroma. It looks like liquid rubies. Light Belgian profile, but the Chardonnay barrel & Merlot grape must, steals the show. This is a brilliant wine/beer hybrid. 5.0% - Only at TF Brewing.

Proper - Mega Yacht Rock Juice BoxProminent aroma of pineapple and mango, light notes of grapefruit pith, a bit of grainy malt mixing with cara malt character, and light herbal notes. Nice citrus pith flavor, a light note of mango, a delicate grainy malt character, and a very light touch of earthy pine mixing with herbal notes lending a nice medium bitterness that builds as the beer crosses the palate. 7.6% _ Available starting today Proper.

Proper - Shorty’s: This “summer crisper” is an American light lager for sure. Plenty of corn and crackery grains. It is more bitter than the typical light lager, which makes it extra tasty for me. 5.0% - Only at Proper.

Salt Flats - Corkscrew Hazy Pale Ale: So, I went to try this yesterday and It's all gone (from the brewery anyway). If you got a chance to try it, please share your thoughts. 5.0%

Shades - Tropic Like It's Hot: There's quite a lot going on here. pineapple passion fruit, strawberry, guava and mango. All are present but to me the pineapple and strawberry tend to stand out. The base tart beer is relatively subtle, but the fruit is the star here. Didn't want to love it, but I do. the 10.0% alcohol is completly hidden. Available at Shades.

Odell - Peach Stand Rambler Blonde Ale: Peach forward for sure; a little hoppy, a bit sour, hints of peach. Taste is malt, floral hops, with strong sweet peaches and a little herbal tea on the end. 5.1% - Found at Slackwater.

The Following are exclusive to the Bayou.

Ordinem Ecentrici Coctores - Tempus Batch 15: This is a blend using anywhere from 30 to 50% oak aged saisons and lambic style ale, blended with young ale lagered in barrels. 5.90%

OEC - Tempus Batch 14This is a blend using anywhere from 30 to 50% oak aged saisons and lambic style ale, blended with young ale lagered in barrels. 5.90%

OEC - Obscura: Missed this Baltic Porter 8.00%

OEC - Antioch Blend #5: Antioch is a blend of several different ales that were aged under different conditions: About 1/3 is a blend of red ales double matured in larger Sangiovese casks, while the other 2/3 comes from various ales matured from 6 months to 3 years in red wine barrels. 8.00%

OEC - Aether: Missed this Sour Ale 6.00%

New Beer Friday 6/17/22

I hope you're all fans of hoppy ales, 'cause you're about to go into lupulin overload this weekend. To keep things interesting, there is a couple of local barrel-aged beers out there, so thanks to those crews for the variety. Happy New Beer Friday!

2 Row - Cryo Pop: Strong with sweet orange, citrus, tropical fruit including melon, berries, and more tropical fruit. A candy and fruity malt sweetness lasts through the end. Very juicy and sweet, but also has a respectable bitterness on the end. A heavy, but expected body from what we come to expect from 2 Row's delicious brews. 9.7% - Available at 2 Row and your better beer pubs.

Offset - Phone It In (Citra/Mosaic)A delicate sweetness greets the tongue first with nuances of honey, cereal and sponge cake in a semi-rich malty display. The tandem of hops that blossom on the middle palate. Leading with tangerine, a bright citrusy taste of oranges and red grapefruit. But then a quick followup of lime quickly turns tropical with passionfruit, mango and papaya. Berries, and kiwi flavors then turn peppery and moderately bitter on the late palate. 6.7% - Found at Bayou and Beerhive.

TF - Großes Rouchbier: This new barrel-aged lager takes TF's Rauchbier and ages it in "bitter barrels" from High West Distillery. 7.7% - Only at TF starting today.

SaltFire - Mobius Trip (Tart Cherry): Harvested from Woodyatt Orchards up in Willard, UT (the fruit capital of Utah) this beer is packed with Montmorency Cherries and soured in Chardonnay barrels with brett.

Grid City - Tamarind/Lime Double Dry-Hopped Nitro Pale AleHuge lime aroma, citrusy tangy and fruity, with just a bit of biscuit malt detectable in the background. Taste follows with herbal tamarind and tart lime, then some citrus/orange rind bitterness and more lime, mild biscuit malt presence, and more citrus bitterness in the hang. The nitro conditioning is very complimentary. 4.8% - Only at Grid City.

RoHa - Fancy Fence: Nose has a pleasant tropical and grassy hop aroma with a fair amount of grainy, biscuity malt. Taste has a decent hop bitterness and the citrus hop flavor is bright and clean. The malt is light enough to let the hops do the heavy lifting. 5.0% - Only at RoHa.

Bewilder - Gin Barrel-Aged DesertGin forward aroma for sure. I’ve always said this is combo that shouldn’t work, but it does. Not a lot of juniper berry here, but the pine, sage & botanicals are solid. Works well with the C-hops in the beer the addition of honey dries it out a bit. 8.5% - Limited availability at Bewilder starting today.

Epic - Biotransformer: Part of Epic's new Small Batch Series. This beer is only available in SLC and features Sabro and Idaho 7 hops. Look for a tropical and citrus forward IPA with a piney and resinous finish.

Beer Zombies - Zombie Mania: This Triple IPAFruity and vegetal up front. Some citrus, but it’s mostly mango driven & it’s definitely got an alcohol kick. Burps are quite hoppy though. 10.5% - Exclusive to Beer Zombies.

Mason Ale Works - Strata RevengenceBig Citrus with melon & botanicals. It’s on the edge of chewy, which gives it body. 8.0% - Exclusive to Beer Zombies.

Mason Ale Works - Derek ZealanderAll New Zealand hops on this one. Packed with NZ Cascade, Motueka and Taiheke hops. This beer has complex tropical fruit notes upfront, with a lively lemon and spice bite and finishes with slight herbal notes. 7.2% - Found at Slackwater.

Mason Ale Works - Zuma: Missed this new blonde ale. 5.3% - Found at Slackwater.

Mason Ale Works - Rory's Red: Missed this Red Ale. 5.3% - Found at Slackwater.

Mason Ale Works - Sweet Creams Are Made of These (Cherry Pie): This milkshake inspired ale has huge amounts of cherries added with vanilla and lactose. Thick body with tart cherry notes to finish. 8.0% - Found at Slackwater.

Stone - Enjoy By 7/04/22: A fruitfully fresh new variant loaded with real tangerine and pineapple. This DIPA peaks on 7/4/22 as the name suggests. These don't often roll in early enough to enjoy before the suggested date, so giddyap! 9.0% Found at Beerhive and Slackwater.

Oskar Blues - Double Dale's: Brewed with juicy, El Dorado and Talus hops. Fruity, piney flavors from the hops mingle with a caramel-driven malt bill. A wee sweet for me, but I'm nit-picking. Good stuff. 9.0% Found at Beerhive, The Bayou, Slackwater, Beer Bar, Dick n Dixies.

Great Basin - Tectonic  Event: Missed this West Coast-style IPA, featuring Columbus, Chinook, Citra, Centennial and Amarillo hops. 8.7% - Found at Slackwater.

Great Basin - Firelit Haze Hazy IPA: Bursting with tropical fruit, pear, peach, melon, and citrus hop aroma and flavor — this IPA shines brightly with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel that’s rich in hop character without bitterness. 7.0% - Found at Slackwater.

Fisher - Big Swim: is a West Coast style pale ale heavy on golden naked oats and flaked oats. We hopped this beer to the max with Idaho 7 hops during the brew, then finished it off with a dryhop combination of El Dorado and Idaho 7. The result made for a crisp piney bitterness, fruity aromas and hints of melon on the nose.
