New Beer Friday 2/25/22

Today Fisher Brewing is going to be celebrating five years of making beer at the resurrected brewery. To celebrate, three new beers were created and all be released one a day over a three day period (Thursday - Saturday). Happy number five and thanks for making Utah a much better place.

Also this week: Park City Brewery's new brewpub in Kimball Junction is in the midst of their soft opening. Since it's a soft opening, check the hours before making the trip. Congrats, PC Brewing!

Fisher - Batch 723Smell is melon, pineapple, and grapefruit peel. Taste is a bit different. Sweet pale malts and white bread, along with honey dew melon, and maybe some pineapple and orangey notes. Floral and pale malt sweetness are center stage with literally no bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and there is no detection of the 9.0%

Fisher - Mysterious Something: Green apple, grainy malt character, hints of whole wheat bread crust, citrus notes, light notes of apricot, fresh cut hay, subtle earthy spiciness, and some Brett funk. Overall the nose is a bit subdued, but makes up for it with it's complexity. Following the nose I get a touch of green apple, red grapefruit, apricot, grainy and bready malt notes lending sweetness, some fresh cut hay mixing with a light floral character, light notes of a dark earthy spiciness with hints of clove and subtle cardamom, and a medium bitterness on the back end that has aspects of citrus, funk, and floral notes. Brett funk character permeates the whole palate. 7.3% - Only at Fisher starting today.

Fisher - Gose: Lightly briny, grapefruit citrusy, mild muffin wheat note... great potency overall, inviting vibrant grapefruit tart flavor and rather potent but hardly off-putting yogurt-y lactic bite... subtle nutty yeast note at the end of some sips - very faint... coriander slowly builds until it's the dominant note in the aftertaste. 5.0% - Available at Fisher on Saturday.

Offset - Riwaka: Single Hop • Pale AleRiwaka is arguably the hardest to grow and hardest to source hop in the world. As recently as 2017 there was only one or two breweries in the US who even had contracts for it. There would be years where none of it even left the country of NZ where it's grown on the northern tip of the South Island. The Brewers who had been able to use it raved about its qualities and incredibly unique profile. 5.0%

Hopkins - Autobahn HefeweizenThis German weiss beer features a robust banana aroma and flavor from traditional Hefeweizen yeast complemented with a light velvety mouthfeel and delicate toasted bread notes from malt. Hallertau Blanc hops provide notes of apricot and other stone fruits. Brewed with locally grown and malted Solstice Malt.

Strap Tank - Stout: Rich, creamy, moderate roast and finishes smooth. Julia Shuler was

the brains on this one.7.0% - Available at both Strap Tank locations and Sandy Slackwater.

Strap Tank - Moto Guzzi: This Italian pils available at the Lehi brewery and at the West Side Tavern in SLC. 5.0%

Melvin - Bright Reserves: Missed this sour blonde ale aged in oak with passionfruit, apricot, kumquat and Sumac. 6.0% - Found at Beerhive

Del Ducato - Verdi Imperial StoutAn Imperial Stout with aromas ranging from chocolate to licorice, from coffee grounds to

tobacco, and liqueur nuances. Its uniqueness lays in the use of chili pepper which combines

very well with the beer's chocolate aroma. 8.2% - Only at the Bayou.

De Dolle - BoskeunBelgian Strong Golden Ale. A special Easter beer. 9.0% - Only at the Bayou.

De Dolle - OerbierBelgian Dark Strong Ale. Oerbier means "original beer". Tart and complex. Cellar Aged. 9.0% - Only at the Bayou.

Barley- ToccadiboBelgian Strong Golden Ale/Tripel spiced w/ Coriander Seed. The aroma is clean and dry and quite alcoholic but also has hints of sumptuous peach and apricot balanced with aromatic notes of hops with a hint of chives. 8 4% - Only at the Bayou.

Grado - Plato ChocarrubicaOatmeal Stout. Chocarrubica is a top-fermenting oatmeal stout with Venezuelan cocoa beans and carrubs from the island of Sicily. This beer uses a large amount of oats (over 30%). 7.0% - Only at the Bayou.

LoverBeer - Nebiulin-aLoverbeer's tribute to a Gueuze, a 3 year blend of their Biere du Lambic (2009, 2010, 2011) along with the addition of 2012 Nebbiolo grapes that were used for Barolo wine. Only 100

cases were produced. 6.5%  - Only at the Bayou.

LoverBeer - Marche'l ReItalian Imperial Coffee Spiced Stout. Uses a blend of Caffè Vergnano (a very famous brand of coffee from Chieri) and spices as rhubarb, saffron, gentian and cinchona. 8 5% - Only at the Bayou.

Montegioco - Dolii RaptorBarrel Aged Belgian Strong Ale. The taste is warm, ethylic, intense, with notes of chestnut honey, dried fruit, black cherry and cocoa. Very round, round, complex, shows remarkable length in the mouth, in the end emerge hints of bitter roots. A very complex beer. 8.5% - Only at the Bayou.

Montegioco - BranBran is brewed with 12 different malts (among others: Pilsner malt, Vienna malt, pale malt, dark malt, caramel malt, chocolate malt, black malt, wheat malt). It has an ebony color with reflections similar to a monk's frock. The nose is intense, with toated notes of soy sauce, coffee, mocha, tobacco, a hint of balsamic vinegar and a hint of tropical fruit. 8 5% - Only at the Bayou.

Brasserie Des Franches (BSF) - Brut des FrancheesThe base beer is a blend of 3 long aged saison V225 (aged in vin jaune, smoked, and classic version),. Revisited and disgorged by the house of Mauler in Môtiers, Switzerland. The Champagne like conditioning and sparkling really brings out new fragrances, that is very unique from the base barrel aged beer. 8.0% - Only at the Bayou.

Hofstetten - Granitbockbrewed in large granite open troughs. The granite stones are then heated to be white hot and added to the wort. This causes the sugars in the malt to caramelize around the stones and gives the beer lovely caramel and roasted flavors. It also gives the Granit Bock a unique smoked flavor. Yeast is added about 1 hour after the white hot rocks have been added to the wort., allowing for an open fermentation. The Granite Bock is then matured for several months on the cool cellars under the brewery. 7.3% - Only at the Bayou.

De Glazen Toren - Jan De LichteImperial White Ale. The name refers to local Belgian history. In the 18th century Jan De Lichte was the leader of an infamous gang of robbers in the region of Aalst, Zottegem. He was executed in Aalst at the age of 25. Barley and wheat are used of course, but there is also oats and buckwheat. Jan De Lichte is the only Glazen Toren beer to which spices are added. Following the Belgian tradition of wheat beer brewing. The use of coriander and curaçoa (Bitter Orange) makes for the extremely fresh, citrus-like taste. 7.0% - Only at the Bayou.

This week we're also going to try adding ciders to New Beer Friday. Any feedback is appreciated.
