Happy Summer Solstice! Thank Thor that this is the longest day of the year, 'cause you're gunna need all that extra time to enjoy all of these wonderful beers that have come our way. Have an excellent weekend!
The Beer Nerds host another blind tasting in the Radio Pub. This Episode should be a lot of fun; because Mikey has decided to keep as much info from our guest tasters (Aaron Saxon and Mark Alston) as possible. The final reveal should be fun. Check us out today (Friday) at 2pm on 99.9FM KUAA or stream us at KUAAFM.org/
Offset - Life Before Insanity: This West Coast Simcoe IPA is a collaboration beer was made with Cellarmaker Brewing and New Image Brewing. The three breweries used every form of Simcoe they could get their hands on. T90, Cryo, Co2 extract, Dynaboost, Hyperboost, and whole leaf were layered in staggering quantities at every opportunity. The best part is the T90 and Cryo lots were the hand selected lots from Cellarmaker and New Image. This is a Simcoe dream. This reminds me of why I fell in love with hop all those years ago. Strawberry, melon and citrus like I’ve not tasted since before COVID. A brilliant single hop WCIPA! Mikey Likey! 6.8% - Available at Offset, found at the Bayou.
Offset - Thiols Terps and Love: This new version was brewed with Offset’s Kölsch yeast. This is an NZ bomb. Crazy amounts of NZ Cascade, Peacharine and fresh Nectaron hops. This is complex. The terps and thiols lead with stone fruit and cannabis. Citrus peel is next. Too many flavors for…a 6.0% IPA. The body and experience here is intense. This fun to drink and it tastes expensive. It’s a full throttle sensory experience. 6.0% - Available at Offset, found at the Bayou.
Home Range - Good News Saison: This HR's house saison. Brewed with their in-house Saison yeast culture and locally grown barley from Cache County along with rye and oats all from Utah. Then aged in an oak foeder for way too long, and naturally carbonated with local Slide Ridge honey. Look for big notes of lemon zest on the nose, with undertones of spices like nutmeg and white pepper. Flavors of lemon curd, sourdough bread, and again some light spice which finishes things nice and dry. 5.0% - Only at Home Range.
Heber Valley - The Grunge: Missed this new IPA featuring Strata hops. 6.5% - Available at Heber Brewing.
Bewilder - Weizenbock (Aged on Amburana Wood): The name reveals it all. Once you get it out of the can your met with something that has bread crust hues. That “sweet wheat” lager base still shine as it did in the original version; full of banana and clove. Now amplified layers of nutmeg & cinnamon pop-out from the Amburana wood staves. This is an entirely new beer, full of rack spices and deep complexity. Crazy wood flavor! 8.4%
Salt Lake Brewing - Go Easy: This super session IPA features Citra and Mosaic. What else could you ask for? This one dials in at a quaffable 2.9% strength a perfect table beer.
Chappell - Craft Beer Sucks: Missed this new "pub ale". 7.0% - Only available at Chappell Brewing.
Scion - Piecycle: This new cider was made with Granny Smith apples, tart cherries, molasses, nutmeg, cinnamon and Star Anise. The color doesn’t scream, Granny Smith, apple. Once you get your nose into it, you can tell the color is from the spices added. This cider definitely has more of an autumn feel. Round and spicy. Might even do well mulled. Quite tasty. 6.3% - only at Scion.
