New Beer Friday 1/28/22

Grid City - Madeira Barrel Aged Imperial Brown Ale: This is GCBW's Imperial Brown Ale aged for 10 months in a Madeira Barrel (a style of Port). Expect flavors of Intense rich malt character layered with chocolate, caramel, dried fig, sherry, toffee, spicy tannic oak, and toasted hazelnut. 9.2% - Only At Grid City. Very limited availability in 22 ounce bottles.

Grid City - Apple Brandy Barrel Aged Imperial Brown Ale: This is again, the Imperial Brown ale aged for 10 months in an Apple Brandy Barrel. Expect intense rich chocolate, malty caramel character, layered with sweet oak, vanilla bean, toasted coconut, leather, tobacco and baked spiced apples. 9.8%  - Only At Grid City. Very limited availability in 22 ounce bottles.

Offset Bier - Mosaic Double IPAThe second offering in Offset's single hop series features Mosaic hops.  Hopped in the kettle, whirlpool, and dry hopped three times with nothing but Mosaic. Nose is heavy mango, papaya, a touch of blueberry, all supported by that unmistakable Mosaic musk! Flavor follows suit. Soft in texture with a balanced bitterness that makes this beer a really easy drinker. Maybe too easy. Quite sweet with just the right amount of haze to deliver maximum hop flavor. 8.0% - Only at Offset Bier, Bayou and Beerhive.

2 Row - Dopplebock: The last time I had this we were fighting over it - whether it was worthy of best in show at the Beehive Beer-Off home brew competition in 2014. It ended up becoming the runner up to best in show. The aroma is deep and rich with malts wrapped in dark fruits with a light hop nose. It smells nicely balanced for such a big beer. The taste goes through a range of coffee and pitted fruits. A subtle light chocolate taste peeks through a caramel malt curtain. 8.0% - Available at 2 Row.

Shades - Pecan Maple Latte It has a rich, nutty aroma. There is a complex blend of coffee, nuts, and maple with hearty malt backbone in the initial taste of this ale. In the aftertaste the maple flavor really takes over. The maple is definitely strong, but to me it is not overwhelming, though I think some would disagree. It has a very sweet finish making it a nice dessert beer. 6.5% - Available at Shades.

Beer Zombies - We Are the Weirdos: Missed this one. 9.666% - Only at Beer Zombies.

Mason Ale Works - Mason's Revenge Melon and citrus aroma. Light grapefruit that's tart and dry with lemons. Tastes of oranges and tart citrus for flavor with some tropical fruit blending in. Flowery grapefruit hops, with oily pine resins along with some dank oranges, citrus and grassiness on the finish. 8.0% - Only at Beer Zombies.

Mason Ale Works - Crimson Bouquet: Missed this. 8.1% - Found at The Bayou.

Mason Ale Works - Daughter of the Sea :Missed this. 13.0% - Found at The Bayou.

Prairie - Cleveland Cowboy: Missed this fruited sour. 7.9% - Found at Slackwater and the Bayou.

Roadhouse - Breath and BrambleMissed this fruited sour. 5.0% - Found at Slackwater and the Bayou.

Melvin - Yuzulander: Missed this Berliner weisse 4.0% - Found at Slackwater.

Also today, Salt and Hops is having their soft opening today. This is a new craft beer specialty store that features an array of 5.0 percent suds, snacks, mixers and and drink acceories. Salt and Hops is located at 443 27th Street in Ogden. Here's a link to their website, it looks like the beer selection is incomplete, you'll just have to go shopping in person I guess. They're open from Noon to 8pm. I'll add updates to their selection as they come in. Congrats, Ogden!

Cheers.
