Hopkins - Rye PilsnerThis pilsner has a light malty profile with a hint of spicy zest from the rye, a touch of bitterness and hop profile from Saaz hops, and a clean, crisp finish. Featuring locally grown and malted pilsner and flaked rye from Solstice Malt. 5.0% - Only at Hopkins.

Level Crossing - White Salamander: This fruited Hazy Double IPA is dosed with Cara Cara Orange, Passion Fruit and Guava with a hop bill that features Lotus, Zappa and Bru-1. The finish is long & lingering. 8.2% - Available at Level Crossing.

Strap Tank - Orange Hopsicle: This is another beer that features Mandarina Bavaria hops along with vanilla and a small amount of lactose. 5.0% - Available Saturday Strap Tank Lehi.

RoHa - Barrel-aged Kensington: This imperial or "grand" saison was aged in Beehive Distilling's Jack Rabbit gin barrels. The botanicals from the gin work really well with the spiciness from the yeast. A nice well rounded beer. 6.8% Available in crowlers at RoHa.

New Beer Friday 5/21/21

Hops still rule this week but there are some mavericks out there keeping things interesting. The Bayou may have been
absent for a while, but they're back with a vengeance with a deep list of new beers that'll blow your mind.

Kiitos - West Coast IPA: This new IPA was brewed with Sabro, Citra and Cascade hops. Smell is of citrus fruit, citrus zest, and tropical fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest, grapefruit juice, and tropical fruit flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. 5.0% - Available at Kiitos now, and soon to grocery stores.

Kiitos - Nitro Rimando Pale Ale: This is a small batch pale ale on nitro that I believe was made with papaya. This is quite delicious: medium sweet malts with nice citrus peel notes. The fruit is complimentary without being too in your face. The Nitrogen is smooth and adds depth. 5.0% - Only at Kiitos.

Fisher - Dawn of the New Haze: Good citrusy, lightly tropical nose. Mild floral hops. The palate is lightly  bitter, but the interplay between grapefruit, pineapple, and hops really work. Especially for a 5.0% session IPA. Only at Fisher.

Ogden River - Cucumber Gose: Pours a nice golden color with a slight tint of green. Fresh cucumber invokes summer garden memories.  The taste reveals a bright and refreshing combination of lightly tart cucumber, salt, and citrus.  Finishes with a lightly bready malt note that reminds you it is still a beer.  Perfect for quenching your thirst after some fun in the sun! 5.0% - Only at Ogden River

Surly - Mapping the Universe: Missed this NEIPA. 7.3% - Found at the Bayou and Slackwater (Sandy).

Surly - And the Devil Makes Three: Missed this Triple IPA. 10.0% - Found at the Bayou.

New Beer Friday 5/7/21

Welcome to Friday. Not one new IPA out this week. These are truly the end of days. Happy New beer Friday!

As promised we have an update to nest week's American Craft Beer Week Calendar. Here's a link in case you missed it.

UTOG - Raptor Ale: This a collaborative beer made with the Ogden Raptors baseball team. This is an American Red Ale with sweet fruity malts and citrus forward hops. 5.0% Available now at UTOG

UTOG/Strap Tank - Dark Mexican Lager: Made to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, this lager feature light roast with sweet crackery grains along with a medium amount of grassy bitterness. 5.0% - Available at UTOG and Strap Tank.

Red Rock - Blackberry Sorta Sour: I love it when a beer gives you all of its goods in the name. This is a kettle soured ale with a good dose of blackberry flavor. As the name denotes the sourness is light, I'd probably call it tart rather than sour. A nice berry forward tart ale for sure. 5.0% Available at All Red Rock locations and I believe Harmons grocery stores.

Saltfire - Anthropophagy: This was made in collaboration with the prog rock band Aura Surreal to promote their new album Anthropophagy. This is a baltic porter that has a good amount of roast and cocoa notes. A medium amount of sweetness goes a long way in the beer's drinkability versus the sweetness you'll find in imperial stouts. the 9.6% alcohol is fairly well hidden. Only at Saltfire.

Shades - Taco Tuesday: I've seen a lot of eye rolls in regards to this beer and most of comes from the name. This is basically a michelada (cocktail) beer. It's comes across as a nice Bloody Mary beer with medium to light spiciness in a lightly tart b are beer. If you like micheladas, you probably like this. 6.5% - Available at Shades and the Ice Haus.

Fisher - Plant Based Haze: Did you know that beer is plant based? Apparently right-wing pundant Larry Kudlow is worried that President Biden's climate plan will force Americans to drink 'plant based beer'. So if you're not a fan of "plant based beer", I'd stay away from this one. It has nice citrus and tropical qualities  with a low amount of bitterness and all the haze you crave. 5.0% - Available at Fisher.

Grid City - Tanzania Mbeya Iyenga Coffee Vanilla Honey Cream Nitro Ale: New from Grid City's Nitro Maestro, Jeremy Gross we have this coffee forward. honey cream ale. A creamy smooth ale with the perfect touch of coffee flavor. Balance is the earmark of this brew: yeasty biscuit, a snappy hit of hops, bathed in the nuttiness of straight-up coffee with a hint of sugar and cream. Wish there was a bit more nose but that's a minor quibble. Another winner from a Grid City. 4.8% - Only on Nitro ate Grid City.

Here are this week's Small Batch Beers from Hopkins Brewing.

Cheers!
