New Beer Friday 7/18/25

Happy New Beer Friday!

Beer Nerd Radio is excited to have Phil Chou, former Director of Brewing Solutions at Haas Hop Products join us in the Radio Pub. Phil's resume reads like an encyclopedia of the brewing arts and we're damn excited to hear his story. Join Mikey along with guest host Jamie Kearns (Kittos Brewing) at 2pm on 99.9fm KUAA.

Home Range - Crispy By Nature: This West Coast Pilsner is a light and crispy Pilsner with a unique hop character of peach, red apple, and a hint of bitterness.

Home Range - Crystal Visions: This English Golden Ale is served via Home Range's Beer Engine. Exactly what you want from an English ale in the summer.  A delightfully light malt forward ale with hints of light biscuit and a subtle orange character. Some might even say orange crumpet.

Proper - Green Tea Rice LagerOkay, just to be clear. This beer is sooo new it doesn’t have a name. So don’t give me any shit if you can't find it on the menu board. That being said, super crisp & clean. There’s an herbal component that likely the green tea. It jives well, and is absolutely crushable. Nice job! 5.0% Available at Proper.

Epic - Pie and Beer Day (Key Lime Pie)It may come across as a typical lactose sour, but it’s actually a cream ale base with a shload of Keylime. Look at the photo clearly shows very malty base(Vienna malt?) regardless, the amount of citrus combined with the cream ale wurks so well. No lactose in here if I failed to make that clear. 7.0% - Available at Epic.

Uinta - Woahhh: This amber lager has a good amount of toasty grain with a light caramel maltiness. It’s fairly hoppy with a lot of mostly pine & flowery bitterness. Finishes dry for the most part. Not too lingering bitter finish. Whoa! 5.0% - available at Uinta.

RoHa - All Hail the Ale: Missed this new DIPA, but we will profile it live on today's episode of Beer Nerd Radio. Check us out.

Here are this week's Small Batch Beers from Hopkins Brewing.

Cheers!

New Beer Friday 7/11/25

We here at New Beer Friday Motion Pictures hope you have a super weekend.

In the radio pub today, we welcome Ryan Murphy to the KUAA studio. Ryan is the guy in charge of Uinta Brewing's Research and Development Department. Not a bad gig to have, eh? We'll get into what makes his job unique and how you can get your hands on some of his experimental beers. Beer Nerd Radio starts at 2pm sharp every Friday on 99.9fm or stream us here KUAA and you can even check out past episodes here at the BNR Archive.

Offset - Nothing But Numbers: Taking the DIPA base recipe from Nothing But Lasers, Connor swapped out the NZ hops and used nothing but experimental varieties that haven't been named yet. No one has ever used this hop combo and Offset won't be able to make it again either as two of these varieties never made it to full commercial production. Mostly hops NZH104 and HBC1019 were used and were followed by a large two stage dry hop of more 1019, a new variety called D5-055, and NZH105. Look for saturated flavors of over ripe tropical fruit, orange creamsicle, and bright lemon zest with even a hint of rum barrel from the 1019. Available at Offset, Found at The Bayou also - 8.0%

Offset - Manilita: This new single hop Pale Ale showcases a new hop variety called Manilita.

Manilita is still in an experimental phase, so very little of it is grown. Offset is part of the Freestyle Hop Research Collective which gives them access to some hop varieties before they make it to full scale production. Look for papaya and ruby red grapefruit aroma with hints of pink starburst candy. There are familiar flavors but they're hard to pick out. More customer research is required! 5.0% - Draft is available now at the brewery. Cans will be ready when the labels arrive. Call ahead

Proper - North West Pale Ale: This pale ale is well attenuated, resulting in a crisp, dry body with a very subdued malt backbone. Notes of grapefruit and pine dominate what flavor is there. It's a clean and technically sound beer, but it lacks the depth by itself. It would be a nice beer-back for a nice Rye Whiskey though. 5.0% - Available at Proper.

In other news: Our Mutual Friend Brewing out of Denver hit the market this week, with a quartette of IPAs look for OMF's Inner Light, Neon Nail, Time's Arrow and Stingray Jesus. So far I've just seen them at Slackwater and Beer Bar.

Cheers!

New Beer (Independence Day) Friday 7/4/25

Even though it's a holiday, the New Beer Friday assault team still shows up to provide you the best-ish weekly round up of new beers for you.

Though we show up, for New Beer Friday, we will be taking a break from Beer Nerd Radio this week. It's hard to find guests to play on a holiday, plus Steph and Mikey love having an extra day off. See you next week with a new show from the radio pub!

Salt Lake Brewing - Amburana ESB on Nitro: It says, “brewed with barrel aged malt”. I’m thinking the malts were aged in the Amburana Barrels? Regardless: this nitro ESB is on point. The Amburana is subtle w/ just a hint of nutmeg-like spice. Everything else is text book happiness. 5.0% - Only at SL Brewing.

Chappell - Tomorrow Problem: This Imperial Amber Ale comes across more like an Imperial Red Ale. There's a nice malt profile, that has some English ale copper influence. Well hopped and the ABV is well hidden. A nice Imperial English Ale. 9.0% - Only at Chappell.

Handle Bar/Saltfire - 7 Year Beer: Happy Anniversary Handle Bar! Sadly I missed this new beer. it's described as a IPA meets Shandy. 5.0% - Only at Handle Bar.
