New Beer Friday 2/18/22

Level Crossing - Timpanator: This dopplebock's  aroma has toasted bread crusts and a bit of caramel malt, dried dates, and figs. Better than average, but not particularly expressive aside from the bread crust and caramel malt sweetness.

Flavor is toasty and toffee forward with dense toasted bread crust, light caramel, dried dates, brown dried figs, and mild German hop herbal and bitter qualities. Front of palate picks up toasted bread crusts with light caramel and dried dates, perhaps a bit of German hop herbal and woodsy qualities, though I may be imagining it. Mid-palate of toasted bread crusts, caramel malt, substantial sweetness, dried dates and lesser brown dried figs; there is also a German hop herbal/woodsiness that lingers in the background. Back of palate finds toasted bread crust and caramel-like sweetness fixed to a mild German hop bitterness and woodsiness. Aftertaste of toasted bread crusts, slight caramel and nuts, and a more than modest slightly Germanic hop-driven bitterness.

Wasatch - UTX: This DIPA has a mostly clear body, with a pale amber orange color. Good amounts of fine carbonation at a moderate pace. Head creation is a bit minimal but sturdy, reaching just over two fingers and a bleach white appearance. Excellent ring lacing and swiss cheese fine bubbles in the head, with some staying power. Good solid dank and tropical hop notes permeate the nose. Aroma hits of sticky pineapple and melon primarily. 9.5% - Available at all Wasatch locations.

Very interesting palate. Good mix of pineapple notes, but definitely more attack with earth and spicy like hop bitterness to match. Peppery pineapple flavors mix in with light bitterness in the mid palate. Juiced warmth with good herbal bite on the finish that really lingers. A good malt coating as well that just adds a touch of sweetness but lets the hops do the talking.

RoHa - Dimple Pucker Blood Orange Sour:  blood orange and hibiscus dominate the nose, obscuring much subtler notes of grapefruit, grainy wheat and raspberry. There's also some very slight hints of lemon yogurt acidity.

It's quite a tasty sour, but it's also a restrained one, in that its acidity is kept to more of a low background hum vs. a puckering, in-your-face sort of deal. That being said, it starts off with a brief blast of lemon sourness, which is followed by big notes of blood orange and grapefruit, backed by a lightly wheaty pale malt sweetness. Citrus remains the focus through to the finish, where flowers and berries join the fray, lingering briefly into a mildly tart aftertaste. Medium-light in body, with middling carbonation levels that provide a proper, crisp bite to this somewhat smooth-feeling sour. I found this rather easy to toss back, but depending on your affinity for blood orange and kettle sours, your mileage may vary. 5.0% - Available today at RoHa.

Bewilder - Dark Patersbier: Missed this one. Look for mild clove, banana, raisin and mild caramel. 5.0% - Only at Bewilder on draft.

Bootstrap - Pickle Me Up: I missed this golden ale infused with pickle juice. 4.5% - Found at Salt and Hops.

Cheers!
