New Beer Friday 7/15/22

Let New Beer Friday set the mood as you relax and find your groove with that special mix of brews and tunes (thanks Meista). Today at 2pm, we debut Beer Nerd Radio on 99.9 KUAA. If you've found your way here, I think you'll find our hour of beer nerding just the thing to ease you into your weekend.

One of the things that I love about having a live show, is the interactive nature of it. We'd love for you to participate in our Q&A segment towards the end of the show. Phones aren't really an option at this point, so we're going to go with questions via Instagram. If you're don't follow me on "the gram" we're @utahbeerblog. Today's guest will be Kevin Templin of TF Brewing. Feel free to shoot Kevin some questions about his universe or any broad craft beer interests you may have. See you at 2pm!

Grid City - Morita Chipotle, Tart Cherry Nitro Honey
Cream Ale: This nitro beer features raw Orange Blossom honey, Morita Chipotle Peppers, Montmorency Tart cherry juice concentrate. Looks great. Head disappeared uncharacteristically fast for a nitro brew. Probably due to those oily chipotles. Aroma is smokey and spicy.  Cherry flavor up front for sure, notable honey as well. The chilis take over from there and run the show. It’s pepper forward for sure, I’d say it’s 5.5 out of 10. Most of it seem to linger in my parched lips. Could probably dial back both the cherry & the chipotle a bit & this would be spot on. 4.7% - Only at Grid City.

Level Crossing -  Philly Sour Fruit Bat: This version of Fruit Bat features mango and peach and was fermented with Philly Sour yeast. It has tart mango and floral aromas with a slight pucker in the mouth. That gives way to flavors of juicy peach, ripe nectarine and mango. The finish is tart – like unripened stone fruit. 5.0% - Only at Level Crossing.

2 Row - Liquid Therapy: This new IPA features a cryo version of a hop that's currently known as HBC 586. A moderate amount of haze with a very nice and explosive tropical aroma. The taste has a blast of citrus. So much orange and grapefruit happening here. Some peach and mango notes round it out, but this beer is all about the citrus. You need to check this one out. 9.0% - Available at 2 Row, should be showing-up at your better craft beer pubs and restaurants.

Level Crossing - Fruit Bat Philly Sour: There's a moderate amount of sourness here, enough to mute the peach and mango that's featured in this beer. The fruit is there, but a little more balance would make this much more refreshing.

Hopkins - Solstice Lager: Brewed like an IPA and fermented like a lager. Locally grown and malted Solstice Malt pilsner, wheat, and flaked oats make the base of this beer; bittered with Warrior hops then dry-hopped with Cascade, Citra, and Mosaic hops. A tropical bouquet with a crisp, clean finish and firm bitterness bring East and West Coast IPAs together with a lager profile. 5.0% - Only at Hopkins.

Melvin - IBUs Are Dead: I couldn't disagree more with the name, but I get it. This is part of Melvin's ExperiMENTAL Series. International Bitterness Units were once the belle of the ball. Nowadays, IBUs have fallen out of favor (or flavor?), in the lupulin world. This "Cold IPA" has 0 IBUs. Flavors are juicy as you'd expect. Plenty of citrus and mango and pineapple make a delicious NEIPA. 7.0% - Found at Beerhive, Slackwater.

Revision - 4seasons of Mother Earth 2022: Missed this new IPA. 7.2% - Found at Beerhive, Slackwater.

Prairie - Tiny Esses: Missed this sour ale with fruit candy. 5.9% - Found at Slackwater.

Also this weekend Southern Utah Summer Beerfest will be happening at Policy Kings' brewery tomorrow (7/16). Sounds like a perfect way to beat the heat!

Cheers!
