New Beer Friday 4/18/25

You broke my heart, Utah Beer. After a week that saw the announcment of Wasatch Squatters closing up shop, Beer Zombies pulling out of Utah and the Garage on Beck also announcing its closure – it's been a lot take in.

It not all bad though, many neighboring states are seeing diminishing breweries across the board, while Utah will likely see four breweries open statewide. Home Range, Wolfdog, Strap Tank (St. George) and Jack Rabbit Brewing are all eyeing openings sometime in 2025. On top of that you have two new cideries (Dendrick Estate & Hobbled Dog) and even Mountain Meadery opening soon in Grantsville. Actually, things are looking much better.

Beer Events this weekend include: Ogden Beer Fest at The Monarch. Hit @ogdenbeerfest for details. The RoHa Brewing Project celebrates 8 years this Saturday and in honor of that, there are three new beers to enjoy while you're there. @rohabrewing.

Salt and Hops, Northern Utah's premier craft beer store stops into the radio pub (in-between beer pick-ups) and fills us in regarding what's new and what sets them apart from the rest-of-the-pack. 2pm! that's the time every damn Friday on 99.9FM KUAA.

RoHa - Above the Clouds Hazy IPA: Hopped with Citra, Cryo Citra, Mosaic. Great citrus profile. Full of grapefruit and white peach. Nice round mouthfeel with a small dose of berries in the end. 7.2% - Available at RoHa 4/18

RoHa - The Great 8 Oenobeer!: Infused with Syrah grapes, this ale has a base cream ale with a subtle amount of Syrah grapes coming trhough. It works more as an accompaniment to the beer instead of dominating it. Quite tasty and enjoyable. 5.0% - Available at RoHa 4/18

RoHa - Great White BuffaloDry coffee forward aroma. Taste is very coffee.with Some nice peppery/chili notes (there’s no peppers in here). Works well with base cream ale. Great White Stout/Coffee Beer. 5.0% - Available now at RoHa.

Epic - Fire on the Mountain: Big nug/chewy/dank nose. Super citrusy, with a good dose of stone fruit and cannabis. A massive amount of fruit and weediness in one can. I like the way the apricot plays off the terps. Mikey Likey! Edited: I got another.

TF - Silly Rabbit: There’s a lot of fresh cut greens in the nose that translate perfectly into the first swig. Dank & weedy like TF’s Terp beers are known for. But I get a good dose of sagebrush - lemon too. The brewers tell me, “not much has changed”, but damn! This batch is super resinous. Hate ‘em or love ‘em, you can’t deny these are potent with flavor and character.

Level Crossing - El Santo: This lager is the vision from brewer, Emerson Bonasbora. Her interpretation on this  Mexican-style lager features Saaz in the main boil with Motueka in the dry-hop. A great tasting lager that gets all the right notes with a lightly sweet malt character combined with an herbal hop character. towards the finish you get a slight burst of citrus from the motueka. I hope this finds a place in the regular rotation. 5.0% - Available at Level Crossing.

Bewilder - Pink Pony Pilz: This beer hits today. No notes. 5.0% only at Bewilder.

2 Row - Dank Engine: This 420 IPA debuts on 4/20. 8.7% - Only at 2 Row on 4/20.

Chappell - Terped Up Crisoy Boi: Missed this one. 5.0% - Available at Chappell.

Here are this week's Small Batch Beers from Hopkins Brewing

Cheers!

Looks like a great week for new beers! Going to miss the Squasatch Taproom on 300 W., popped in for a couple last night. Moving forward from this, we still have Salt City Brewing and Top of Main Brewery in our market. Keep supporting the locals and let Monster run off with a couple iconic local names.

RoHa's Great White Buffalo is a damn good beer, had it Wednesday when I popped in for the weekly firkin. It was a berry version of their NZ Pils.

Thank you Mikey for keeping us up to date on all the new offerings and the rumblings in the industry! Very excited for another meadery! Cheers!
