This New Beer Friday, you get the malty, hoppy, dank, fruity and toasty - all of the basic food groups, bundled-up into one week of new releases. Stay cool out there this weekend.
Epic - Double Cross: This Double Amber Ale has a semi-cloudy, dark caramel/orange look. Heady, candied, caramelized, medium dark roasted malt, toffee, mixed spicy aromas. taste is rich, a touch sweet, light caramel, toffee, lots medium dark caramelized malt, for the taste. Finishes very well, toffee, some dark caramel malt, some copper as well. Please let this warm up a bit. 9.0% - Available at Epic starting today.
TF/RoadHouse - Superdelic Kush: This collaboration between TF and Roadhouse Brewing starts with orange-peach-fruit cocktail with, orange creamsicle overtones. Excellent intensity and depth. Grapefruit zest stands out. in the mouth grapefruit in 3D right up front, humming through the finish; heavily floral, lightly doughy, pungently perfumy resins and sediment layering the palate, heightened by spicy hop and booze character... spicy pine amplifies less than halfway through the glass, sharp grassy bitterness prickling as well. Quite delicious. 6.8% - Available at TF starting today.
Grid City - IPA #3: Pours a clear orange amber colour with slightly tawny coloured head that replenishes nicely with a little swirl. Nose is at once hoppy with citrus rind, tangerine, a touch of tropical fruit and floral aroma , but solidly malty with a subtle caramel note. Taste is a barrage of hops - piney, citrus, orange, pineapple and marmalade with a bitterness that is tamed by the sweet toasted malt with hints of caramel and honeysuckle. 7.5% - Available at Grid City.
RoHa - Bluebird American Wheat: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of wheat malts with a light amount of grainy sweetness. Light aromas of citrus/lemon zest and herbal hops. Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of wheat malts with a light amount of grainy sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of citrus/lemon zest and herbal hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which fades away leaving a slightly lingering wheat malt/herbal hop flavor. 5.0% - Available at RoHa now.
Salt Lake Brewing - It Was Always The Citra: They sure didn't skimp on the Citra in this session IPA. It's a textbook citra showcase; aroma is orange marmalade, grapefruit zest, juicy tangerine and a hint of grass. Taste gives juicy tangerine and pulpy & zesty grapefruit, slightly grassy and just a hint of malty sweetness on the finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation, foamy mouthfeel turns into a creamy finish, high drinkability. 5.0% - only at SL Brewing.
Shades - Huckleberry Sour: Rich, sweet huckleberries with just enough tartness to really make the fruit pop. I'm a fan of huckleberries in general, and this really works. Taste starts tart, with a great huckleberry flavor and a nice wheaty finish. Medium/light body with decent carbonation and creaminess. This is a seriously tart and refreshing beer. If you like fruit beers, this is absolutely worth trying. 5.0% - Available now at both Shades locations.
