The 10th Annual Tour De Brewtah

It's time to start thinking about the 10th Annual Tour De Brewtah, Salt Lake's best bicycle based bar crawl ever. If you've never had the pleasure, the Tour De Brewtah  is a one-day event open to cyclists of all abilities to tour local Salt Lake breweries and taste the finest craft beverages they have to offer.

In honor of the Tour's 10th anniversary, organizers have created a total of 10 routes, of varying difficulties to visit breweries both old and new throughout Salt Lake County and the City of Ogden. Yes you heard that right, this year has an Ogden route. This year's theme is "A Cosmic Experience" and just happens to fall on May the 4th which has commonly become known as Star Wars Day. Riders are encouraged to attend dressed in your most creative, out of this world costumes (that are bicycle friendly) and spend the afternoon enjoying the best of what Utah's craft brewers have to offer.

This year the Tour De Brewtah has also added the Local Beer Festival, where patrons who are unable to make the ride can still sample all of the finest products from our local craft producers in one spot. This year the event will call The Gateway home, both as the starting/finishing point as well as the spot for the beer fest.

Now for a little friendly advice: don't wait too long to register! This event has a set number of tickets and always sells out before the day of the event. Different routes have different price points and all routes include one drink ticket per stop; you are more than welcome to buy extra food and drink along the way, so don't forget some extra cash. For info on tickets and the route that's best for you follow this link to start your adventure.

The Tour De Brewtah also donates a percentage of the ticket purchase price to support local non-profits.

Looking forward to seeing you there, and Cheers! errr.....May the Force be With You!

The 2014 Tour de Brewtah and the Return of Rêve

Registration is now open for the 2014 Tour de Brewtah. If your not familiar with this event it combines two of my favorite activities bicycling and beer. Last year's event not only had bikes and beers but also a Star Wars theme! This year will have a theme as well, but as of now it's yet to be determined.

The 2014 Tour de Brewtah will be held Saturday, May 3rd, 2014. The cost of the ride will be $45 regular/ $75 VIP and includes a beverage of choice at each stop, commemorative pint glass, snacks along the way, and a feeling of doing good in your community.

There will be a couple food trucks on site in the morning serving up coffee and breakfast stuff, and multiple trucks at the wrap up party serving up some awesome grub for dinner!!  So bring your cash and get your fill.

And, of course, World Dog will be at Uinta again meeting your gourmet hot dog needs!

Also there will be entertainment at the end! More details to follow. Here's the link to the registration page. This event fills up fast so don't wait.

RedRock's Rêve Belgian style Triple is back! If your a fan of Triples you'll really love this beer. If your not a fan of Triples your really going to love this beer. One of the things that sets this beer apart from others of it's style is the blending of RedRock's wild, sour beer strain to it's base. This year’s batch contains a blend of one and two-year old Belgium funky ales that have been basking in the high-life of French Oak Chardonnay barrels.

Pours a light golden honey color with with a moderate fluffy white head that dissipated to a very thin froth. The nose is a little boozy with banana, cloves malt and ripe mango. The taste is very much the same starting with candied sugar and cloves that transitions into toasted malt and banana. Tart vinous fruit come next balancing out the sweetness creating dry and almost puckering finish. The alcohol is warming and welcomed, masked well by Rêve’s full body. It adds a whole new dimension to the beer. You really get a good sense of the oak in the finish. It’s 10.3% abv is more than enough to warm your inner beer geek. Rêve is truly a dream! Available at RedRock locations and Northern Utah's better beer spots.

Cheers!

2012 Tour De Brewtah

A bunch of us got together last year and had the opportunity to participate in the 2011 Tour De Brewtah, what a great time! Beer, bikes, more beer, people in crazy costumes, it was a blast. If you like beer and have a bike I urge you to get your shit together and spend a Saturday afternoon pedaling around downtown for beer and a good cause.

The ride will be Saturday May 5 (Cinco de Mayo). There are two wave times and two routes to choose from, but the options only stay available until they fill up. Organizers expect the ride will sell out again this year, and quicker than last year too, so don't miss out!! Here's the link for registration.

Also, round two in the Utah Beer Challenge has been completed. The Sweet16 field looks to be a complete bitch, I expect there will be much tighter races from here on out. The updated bracket is here. Any comments or prediction for the finals?

Cheers!

2011 Tour de Brewtah

The 2011 Tour de Brewtah has been scheduled and all indications are that this years event will be bigger than ever. The aim is to build a stronger local community by featuring bicycling as a viable means of transportation, as well as featuring our local craft breweries,

Last year was the tour's inaugural ride and organizers were blown away by by the number of participants. They actually had to turn people away. This year organizers are adding more spots and customizing routes.

Some other changes include a map at registration that provide added "adventures" along the tour some new stops and other fun and exciting additions including prizes.

Costumes are encouraged as well are teams and themes.

The registration fee $40, includes 4 pints, meal, commemorative pint glass, and a warm fuzzy feeling that your money is going to support great causes. such as Splore, Utah Clean Energy and Cottonwood Canyons Foundation.

The Second Annual Tour de Brewtah will be held on Saturday May 7th, 2011.

Here's a link to the registration page. Looks like I'm going to have to get my ass in shape!
