Normally, we here at Utah Beer try to keep the content focused only on local beer issues and events. However, when others in the craft beer community are met with unforeseen setbacks it's only right for good neighbors to show up, and help in anyway they can.
In the early hours of Thursday, January 23rd, the Muddy Creek Brewery of Butte Montana was destroyed by a devastating fire that consumed the brewery's landmark 100 year old building. It took
firefighters 6 hours to get a handle on the blaze. The entire 2nd floor of the building was consumed. The taproom, the
artwork, the awards, the photos of family and friends – all completely lost. Sadly Muddy Creek was about to celebrate their fifth year this month.
Currently the owners and staff are all attempting to sort through the aftermath, physically, mentally, and emotionally in order to move forward resurrecting the business and lives of the small 11 person staff.
To help, a fundraiser page has been created by friends of the brewery to help offset the mounting expenses that are quickly piling up. Let's show our pals in Butte that Utah has their back and we wish Muddy Creek Brewing and their community a speedy and prosperous return.
Cheers!

New Beer Friday 9/15/17
Two very different local beers from three breweries to help get your weekend started. Confused? Don't be. It's just another New Beer Friday.
Epic - Barrel Aged Imperial Pumpkin Porter: If you're not a fan of pumpkin beers or are just over them already, I have a beer that may just change your mind. This new barrel aged version of Epic's pumpkin porter takes an already tasty beer and and gives it more depth with the addition of bourbon. The whiskey enhances the pie spices present and softens the cocoa and roasty notes of the base porter. The result is a highly drinkable and complex beer that is much more than a pumpkin beer. You can snag this beer only at Epic's Sugar House Brewpub. It's available to-go, or you can enjoy it there, via sample, 5 ounce pour of the full bottle. 10.3% ABV
Fisher/RoHa Collaboration - RoFish Wet-hopped IPA: This is the first collaboration between
these two new 2017 breweries. Chris Haas of RoHa and Colby Frazier of Fisher have had a long friendship that dates back to their time brewing togther at Desert Edge. This Wet-hop beer has a great hoppy nose that reminds me of citrus zest and pine. The flavor is the same, nice hop profile... Perhaps a little grassy as it warms. There's just enough pale malt to balance it all out. Very drinkable session IPA. 4.0% ABV. Available at Fisher Brewing and the RoHa Brewing Project today.
Is there something you found that I may have missed? Please share!
Cheers!

The Shot-Ski Record Returns to Park City
In January of 2014 the Town of Breckenridge, Colorado set a world's record for the longest shot-ski at 219 skis and 666 people at 973 feet long. In case you're not sure what a shot-ski is, think of a traditional snow ski that has shot glasses glued to the plank. Now get a bunch of friends, fill the shot glasses with whatever and drink it down at the same time without spilling. That's basically it.
On October, 22nd Park City, Utah broke that record as people celebrated the 30th anniversary of Wasatch Brewery. 1,191 people lined
up in the middle of Park City’s Main Street to throw back some of
Wasatch’s Premium Ale with a 961-foot-long
shot-ski. That record lasted for about three months as Breckenridge took it back in January of this year with 1,234 people drinking from the 1,997-foot shot-ski.
Well, guess what? Park City and the Wasatch Brewery is looking to take it back once again. The one long ski (actually a total of 440 skis bolted together) will be hoisted at 2:00 p.m. on October, 14th in an attempt to re-break the record.
And to keep the celebration going, Wasatch Brewery will host a beer garden in the Brew Pub lot from noon until 6:00, complete with games, live music, a food truck and of course, a selection of Wasatch Brewery’s award-winning craft beers. This year's goal is to sign up a total of 1,250 beer-lovers.
There will be several different ticket options in 2017 including:
$20 ticket, good for one unreserved spot on a ski
$25 ticket, good for one unreserved spot on a ski plus entrance to the beer garden, plus your first beer (capacity limited to 600)
$500 VIP Team Ticket, which includes:
6 reserved spots on two skis
2 skis wrapped with your team or company name to take home as a souvenir
6 entrance passes to the Wasatch Beer Garden
6 beer tokens.
Now that the word has gotten out about what a fun event this is, organizers anticipate that it will sell out very quickly this year, so they are encouraging all potential participants to purchase tickets as soon as possible by going to www.parkcityshotski.eventbrite.com, says Wasatch Marketing Director Judy Cullen. And to inspire everyone to dress up in costume, Wasatch Brewery founder Greg Schirf will be handing out gift cards and Wasatch “swag” to entrants dressed in the best regalia. The goal, like last year, is to have fun while raising money for the Sunrise Rotary of Park City, a very worthwhile cause.
I had a blast participating in the record last year, I'd recommend that you all give it a "shot", see what I did there? Go Park City!
Prost!

Jack Mormon Brewing Company
A quick update for you this morning before I get to the title story. All Star Brewing (formerly Tracks Brewing) has done something that we've all been hoping for, no... the brewery is still not open, but they have officially changed their name to something with more of a local feel. Bonneville Brewing. And why not, it's practically on the front door of the Bonneville Salt Flats and it does technically reside on the extinct Lake Bonneville's real estate. It's a good fit and a great name. Now they just have to get the damn place open.
Cruser Rowland, owner of Jack Mormon Coffee Co., along with local home brewer Chris Detrick will soon be resurrecting Jack Mormon Coffee Stout. The original was brewed a couple years back by Detrick & Epic Brewing. That relationship dissolved but the stout would not die and will soon be added to the list beverages you can purchase at Jack Mormon Coffee Co. or as it will soon be known Jack Mormon Brewing Co.
This will be Utah's fourth brewery/brewpub planned for 2013 ( Avenues Proper and Publick House, Vernal Brewing, Bonneville Brewing & Jack Mormon Brewing ). Rowland is still in the early stages of planning and will not be limiting himself to coffee beers. Until the project gets off the ground, fans can purchase Jack Mormon Coffee Stout t-shirts at the coffee shop located at 82 E.Street in Salt Lake City.
Cheers!

Fifth Elemement Update
Remember what I said about 5th Element being available on the 5th?
Scratch that, it's been moved to today. So go... Go now and gets some. Or I'll drink it all by myself.
Cheers!

Mark Alston at the Bayou has just receive a stellar list of holiday and not-so-holiday ales for the intermountain beer kindred. This years batch has some familiar labels, as well as some new, hard to find bottles that rarely find themselves to this side of the Zion curtain. Theses are special orders for the Bayou only and should last through the end of the year. Here they are. Thanks Uncle Mark!!! Cheers.
