New Beer Friday 8/23/24

Can't seem to find that perfect beverage to kickstart the Weekend? Our New Beer Friday chemists have spent moments tossing back the finest ales and lagers to find the ideal pint.

Desolation/Beehive Distilling is back in the radio pub as Beer Nerd Radio digs deeper into the exploding craft cocktails in cans industry. Also tune in for a special announcement. We start it all at 2pm every Friday on 99.9FM KUAA.

Salt Flats - Tropic Rye Lager: This is tasty! A rye lager with Motueka & El Dorado hops? Nice tinge of amber from the rye - great citrus profile with other vague tropical notes. Low bitterness with a clean finish. Stuff like this gives my beloved Citra pales a run for the money.

Policy Kings - Go Lions!: In this blue razz sour look for the base beer to provide lemony smack with tart raspberry from start to finish. 5.0% - Only at Policy Kings.

Ogden Beer/Salt & Hops - Kickstart Kolsch: Look for a light to medium in body with a soft mouthfeel and a straw yellow or pale gold color. A spicy, herbal Noble hop bitterness that balances with a toasty malt base. 5.0% - Available at Ogden Beer - Salt & Hops.

Salt Lake Brewing - Kohatu: Head Brewer at SL Brewing Jason Stock named this beer after the hop he used. He also pointed out the this hop spelled backwards is "Utah Ok". For this reason alone you should try this pale ale. Distinct aroma of tropical fruits, also hints of herbs and spruce. Refreshing flavor that's well hopped throughout, again notes of tropical fruits, herbs and spruce, with a grapefruit finish. 5.0% - available at SL Brewing.

Salt Lake Brewing - Beer Sting: This lavender and honey ale Smells of lavender. Go figure. Taste is more subtle, good amount of wheat, and the honey does come through too. The lavender is not as heavy as the nose and rounds it out like a lightly hopped ale. Tasty stuff, not soapy at all. 5.0% - available at SL Brewing.

Salt Lake Brewing - Big U Pilsner: This new German style pils will be a staple on draft and in cans going fi]forward from SL Brewing. It's toasty malts, simply sweet and grainy. Hops are traditional grassy and herbal with some spicy hop character. A great house pils. 5.0% - Available at all SL Brewing locations.

Heber Valley - 8th Continent - IPA: This new IPA features all New Zealand hops (Motueka, Nelson Sauvin, Rakau). Look for Juicy, fruit notes of apricot, melon, mango, and citrus/lime (Result of Nelson and Motueka hops late in the boil and dry hop), Approachable IPA for all hoppy beer lovers. 7.2% - Available at Heber Valley Brewing.

Heber Valley - Sunset Peak Pilsner: This dry-hopped lager is a hoppy pilsner (45 BUs) brewed with all Pilsner malt. Fermented cold with our favorite German lager yeast, Hallertau and Tettnang hops during the boil with late additions of Triskel as well as a small dry hop of Triskel and Harlequin. Crisp and refreshing, with a notable hop character that is floral and sweet with hints of lemongrass. 5.8% - Available at Heber Valley Brewing.

Scion - Anjou Pear: Made with all Utah grown pears and English yeast this beauty is off-dry with juicy pear notes, hints of bright citrus and wet slate and has a spritzy, lip-smacking finish. On draft and to-go in tallboy cans. 6.2% - Available at Scion Cider Bar.
