New Beer Friday 1/25/13

As you've probably noticed there hasn't been much action happening on the beer front lately. Luckily we still have New Beer Friday!

Bohemian Kleinbock: you may have noticed that there has been a bit of a Renaissance at the Bohemian Brewery lately. Seasonal beer have been hitting the taps like crazy, their latest offering is called Kleinbock.  Bock beers are rich malty beers traditionally stronger in alcohol and brewed during winter and spring.  Bohemians Kleinbock, or wee bock, tries to capture the fantastic character of these beers but stay within Utah’s draft laws.  It pours a bright, deep golden color with a nice white head.  It has smooth bready malt sweetness with a clean finish and balanced hop flavor but minimal aroma.  Available exclusively at the Bohemian Brewery.

RedRock Chili Porter: I have not had this one yet but here's one readers description. The spice and chocolate balance each other out perfectly. Chocolate first followed by spice.

Ovila Belgian Style Golden: The nose is full of biscuit malt, with a dose of Belgian yeast and citrus with a little bit of cinnamon and coriander. The flavor has a lot of malt and yeast character, as well as some sugar, lemons and oranges. The alcohol is noticeable but the beer is still easy to drink.

Returning Favorites

Sierra Nevada Tumbler:  Heavily roasted with a hint of the campfire charcoal, the nutty blend is sweet and slightly dark at the same time.

Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye: The nose is earthy and malty with piney resins. The flavor starts piney with a complex grainy malt character. Next comes hints of cocoa and a mild rye spiciness. The finish is dry and piney. This is very much like a spicy SN Celebration in that it’s got good hop character, its solidly built and very dense for the 6.6% ABV. Very clean and balanced.

Cheers!

I have a late entry for New Beer Friday. The Hop'n Keg in Vernal has Red Wash Crude on tap starting at 11:30 today. It's described as a dark Irish cream stout. That's all the info I have.

Cheers!

Tumbler is back? Thought it was a Autumn seasonal. Don't get me wrong, I would go buy a few more of these if they were available.

I am looking forward to Bigfoot, and hope to find Barrel Aged version here in Utah (Hint, Hint DABC)

Cheers,
Scott

Is the Chilli Porter the same as the Mole Porter they have made before?

Also, what's up with the Hop'n Keg! They are brewing now? Do they have a website, etc?

The Hop 'n Keg has beenaking beer for quite a few months. They're a nano brewery with only a few beers under their belt. Most info comes from their Facebook page that is under The Quarry Steakhouse.

How is it possible that breweries don't have websites these days? I mean, do they want to make money? It takes only a few minutes to get a FB page and it is FREE! Every brewery should have a site listing the beers on tap, and special events, etc. It's easy.

I believe Hoppers is doing Fresh Cask Friday, It's a Pale Ale style, I did not find out what he's putting in it.

From Donovan, the cask is a pale ale hopped with sorachi ace, cascade & belma.

Also the wine store just off 2100 south has Deschutes Hop Henge IPA and Red Chair pale ale :)

Just had a Rogue Ale at Ichiban "White Crane Bitter"

@Kevin. Whaaa? How was it???

Just like Dead Guy. It is an alias.

Yes, I hate to go off on a rant, but Rogue has one of the worst records concerning the use of alias names, breweries etc. They repackage their beers and pretend they are something distinct when they are not. Yellowstone Ale etc. They even sell beers in Japan labelled as Japan's bitterest beer with a false address in Sapporo. Dead guy alone has about 25 aliases.

I looked up the beer last evening, and also saw some references to it being a Dead Guy clone - but it didn't taste like dead guy, though I didn't taste side by side I've had plenty of it :) . It was more attenuated - dryer and bitter low/med carbonation seem like a English style light dissipating head. some of the review on Beer advocate didn't match my experience - maybe it was the atmosphere but it seemed like a "dry english ale" made for paring with sushi similar to dry asian lagers. I took a picture but have no clue how to post pic's on blogger
