Wasatch Proposes Brewpub for Sugarhouse

It looks like Sugarhouse is becoming the the go to place in SLC for food and drink. Places like Fiddler's Elbow and the Tap Room have been staples in the Sugar "Hood" for many years - now with the addition of places like, Sugarhouse Pub, The Annex and Campfire Lounge the south end of the city is really taking off. So much so, the oldest brewpub in the state is looking for a new place to operate. The Wasatch Brewpub.

The problem is Wasatch needs a proximity variance. They're proposed location on 2120 s. Highland Dr. is too close to the Sprague Library to operate an alcohol related business.

There is a public hearing coming up on Friday Jan, 10th at 4pm at the Sprague Library to get input from the community. Any thoughts on Wasatch's new venture?

Cheers!

I work in the Sugarhouse area. In fact this location would be about a two minute walk. I'm always happy to see more places to go around here. That said, there are a lot of restaurants/pubs in this area. I worry that there are enough customers to keep them all viable.

I like the combination of increased public transport (trolley) and beer spots. This is a pattern that needs to be encouraged.

It would be nice to have a brewpub on the south/west side of the valley...

I totally agree D-D. I'd actually hoped to swap over to trax and the trolley for my daily commute. Sadly that combination is a bit slower than I'd hoped for. But for Friday after work beer nights it's a huge benefit.

And I agree with you as well MC. I live in Sandy. Bohemian and Hoppers are my only semi-close to home options.

The demand is there, if you've been by the Granite building.

I have been by there. At least during the day it seems to be hit and miss. I guess we won't know for sure until all the construction is done and people can get in and out of the area more easily. I certainly welcome a Wasatch Brew Pub entry into the area. That would be great.

On the South/west front, the new All Star Bowling and Entertainment Center in Draper will be pouring all Bonneville beers as soon as construction is complete. It is a massive facility and the bar is going to be huge as well.
