SLUG Mag on Tap Happens this Saturday

This Saturday is SLUG Mag on Tap - a beer festival designed to celebrate SLUG Magazine's 10th Annual Local Beer Issue as well as being a fundraiser for the Utah Brewers Guild. This festival will take place at the Gateway and will feature only locally produced beers and ciders - both high and low point.

The fest will feature 22 breweries pouring 79 beers from breweries ranging from Vernal to Zion. Booths will also be set up showcasing some of Utah's newest "in planning" breweries, to give people an idea of what kind of new suds they can expect in the coming months.

This will be an adults only shindig, so please leave the kiddos with nanna.

When: 2–7 p.m. at The Gateway. Pre-sale tickets are available for $20 and will be $25 day-of. Each ticket includes 3 sample tokens and a full-sized commemorative mug. No chairs, coolers, umbrellas, strollers, wagons, dogs or tents are allowed. I have a feeling the Gateway's Fountain will be highly utilized. RSVP to the Facebook Event here.

Note: Front Runner and Trax are excellent option to get you to and from the fest.

Since 2008, SLUG Magazine has crafted an issue that we all hold dear to our hearts: The Local Beer Issue. This year, SLUG will celebrate its 10th Annual Local Beer Issue with one fantastic event.

Currently 18 breweries strong and growing, the UBG is dedicated to encouraging local purchasing, defending the industry and educating the public about all things brew-related.

SLUG Magazine's Pie & Beer Issue

For the last six years SLUG Magazine has devoted one issue a year to Utah's craft beer drinking scene. I have had the privilege to be asked to contribute every year, now I'm the Mag's official "beer know-it-all".

This year we've dedicated our beer issue to the unofficial, counter culture holiday known as Pie & Beer Day (get it? sounds like Pioneer Day). We've covered the state bring you all that Utah's beer scene has to offer in one handy-dandy lil' publication.

Look for stories on Utah's ladies of craft beer, new local breweries, beer reviews, glassware tips and of course beer & pie pairings!

SLUG Magazine is a free monthly publication that can be found at most bars, restaurants and reading stands in the SLC area. Please check it out!

Cheers!

I Get By With a Little Help From my Friends

It's a lonely job writing a narrow niche blog like this. It's nice when good people who love Utah's beer scene as much as I do jump in to help spread the beer love and tell the stories of the people - who do so much to make our tongues and bellies happy.

So I urge you to go out and pick up a copy of SLUG Magazines Annual Beer Issue. It's full of great stories about the Land of Misfit Beers, written by great people (myself included) who love Utah's beer as much as we do. Get a copy now before their gone.

Cheers!

P.S. Those three ruggedly hansom specimens pictured above made Mrs. Mikey Squeal like a tween at Bieber-Fest.

Revenge of the Beer

There's been a lot of beer related news this year in Utah. It's hard to get a grasp on all of it. We do our best here at Utah Beer to "keep you in the know" as to what's going on before it happens. Luckily we're not alone. Three years ago the staff at Salt Lake Underground Magazine (SLUG) took notice of Utah's emerging beer scene and decided to start publishing an annual issue devoted to my favorite subject, beer.

Editor Angela Brown and staff have put together a great issue covering the full spectrum of craft beer here along the Wasatch Front. They even sought out the most renowned beer writer in three zip codes, me. SLUG is available around Salt Lake City at various kiosks for free or online here. Check it out, I'm sure they'd love some feedback.

Also, I've posted some photos from last weeks NABA Mountain Brewers Festival at the Utah Beer Facebook page.

Summer of the Beer Continues

Unless you've been under a rock for the past year or so, you've probably noticed that Utah's beer culture has undergone huge explosion of growth. Between new breweries, homebrewing and a near doubling of the beer available in the market people in Utah are hungry for quality suds.

SLUG (Salt Lake Underground) Magazine's second annual Beer Edition is proof of that. For the second year in a row Slug has devoted it's monthly mag to to the Salt Lake beer scene.

From food pairings to bar reviews to brewer interviews by famous contributing journalists (me), SLUG has the summer covered. SLUG is out now at kiosks around town for free. Please check it out. Cheers!

SLUG Beer

Writing a beer blog is a lonely pastime. My days mostly consist of sitting in my refrigerator box beneath the Fourth south overpass. Scratching notes onto a used bar nap with my fist full of yellow crayons(regular, not Perma); Doing all I can to spew-forth all that is good for the inter mountain beer faithful. Thankfully this month I'm not alone. Angela Brown editor extraordinaire at SLUG(Salt Lake Underground) Magazine decided to pull her box up next to mine a publish Slug's first ever beer only issue. "The Beer Issue" consists of everything a beer lover could want to navigate they're way through "green jello'd" hued landscape that is Utah.
From reviews to brewers insights to rants from yours truly, It's a must read. Available throughout the month of June in the along the Wasatch Front as well at Slugmag.com
