We Got Some!

I'm writing this from the parking lot of the wine store on 300e. 255s. They have 50 bottles of Uinta BBB. I just ran into four Utah Beer Blog peeps and we all got of our three bottles. So if you want 'em this is the place. They don't seem to be ringing up at the register so prepare to wait a few minutes. But they are here and going fast.

Cheers!

Shit.

Looks like I'm leaving work right now for some "personal business."

Thanks, Mikey!

I met Carlos in the store and we bought our three. First they said they could sell it to us, then they said they couldn't and then eventually they led us in the back room and sold it to us back there. The receipt says that it was a "layaway" sale and that I am a liquor licensee holder... but hey, I have my three bottles.

Here we go again. Stopped by the 3rd east store this afternoon. They have it, but once again, won't sell it. They are saying the "problem" should be resolved on Monday. Unf***ing believable.

That's what they initially said to Ricky and me. However they quickly decided to just ring it up as a "layaway" type sale or something.

Really sorry to hear that, Rip. Man we really need to get rid of this idiotic monopoly.

yeah i got shafted as well, however i did get to set 3 aside with my name and phone number so i should be set. its easier to buy heroin in this town than a beer which is really scary.

First of all, Rip I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I feel your pain brother.

I'm sorry guys, at this point I don't know if I'm helping or hurting you all.

Well, without your info we'd never have even know about this beer Mikey! Lets recognize this for what it is; the state's monopoly trying to deal with its first limited release of a beer. And they have done a pretty shitty job so far. The moral of the story- Uinta sell all of your beer yourself like the Co-op does. Manage it yourself and do whatever you want. There is no excuse for any brewpub to not sell their beer via growler or bottle at this point for take out.

In a free market, the DABC would have gone out of business due to managerial/corporate ineptitude. I walked into a store today (again...for the fourth time in two weeks) where they had the product I wanted. I actually held that product in my hand. They couldn't accept my money in exchange for that product. It's a pretty simple process, really. No, really, DABC, it IS simple. You have product, I have money. Cash, in fact. Let's trade. No? Okay, you keep product. I keep money. I'm driving to Evanston or Grand Junction again. They are willing to exchange product for my money in those places.

Yeah,
I think Carlos and myself were just annoying enough, or something, to get them to sell it to us. I told a friend right after I picked up my three bottles to go and get some. He works at the Avenues Liquor Store and on his lunch break he went over there, all of an hour after I left with my bottles. They wouldn't sell it to him, an employee of the same company! What the hell?

About Heroin being easier to purchase in Utah. You are absolutely true, I can make a phone call and someone can even deliver it to me, within the hour. What a strange situation this has been. And Mikey, you are helping.

Hey Mike - it's one of your "peeps" from the liquor store - Connie from So.Cal! Hubby likes the BBB. Nice to meet you and your buddies and I will definitely keep up with your blog!

Damnit! Went to the liquor store on 90th. No one knew what I was talking about when I asked for it. Finally someone in back said, "Yeah, we got it, but you can't have it because the dough heads that run the place haven't entered it in the system yet." No ETA on when that will happen. Enjoying a nice Rogue Hazelnut Brown right now instead. Ha!

Stop the presses! Stopped by the 3rd east store again a few minutes ago, they had the beer....and they sold it to me. FINALLY! Asked the guy how much they had left and he said only a few bottles. Get it before they change their minds again. I think next time I'm just going to swing by the park and buy some crack, it would be WAY easier.

I got some. The guy looked at me like I was absolutely crazy when I told him I didn't need three bottles. But at $14 a piece, I can buy a lot of really good beer/beer ingredients. I'm glad I'll get a chance to taste it, but I'm curious why everyone feels compelled to need three bottles of this stuff? Think of all the Traquair or Orval or Westmalle or Rochefort or Terrible or Olde Suffolk that $14 could buy in that same store.

True... But those great beers that you mentioned aren't going anywhere anytime soon. There were only 300 bottles of the BBB made. And it will likelyl never been made again. That's why I have a stockpile.

90% of the energy behind super special releases is hype. People actually fly in from overseas to go to Dark Lord day. I've been a 'victim' of wanting the next great beer as much as anyone. The cool thing about the BBB is that is was probably Utah's first rare release for beer. Mistakes were made, but hopefully everything is smoother next time something akin to this happens. I know that if the Fifth Element is released I'll be all worked up to get a case (or two). The BBB is, as Mikey said, worth it in my opinion even if they make it again someday. It's Utah beer history. Plus, seeing everyone in the Wine Store was hilarious.

There are at least 60 bottles left at the 9000 S State Store.

Damn, poor college student here in Ogden, I have repeatedly asked the nice employees at all of the liquer stores here if the BBB was coming, and if the Abyss was coming, none of them have any idea, If only I can get a good job when I graduate so that I can afford to drive down to SLC and buy the new stuff. Still a decent selection here, cant complain too much.

Please somebody help a poor college student here in Utah, where can I find a Trappist Achel, Floreffe darks, Egmont tripel, Konig Ludwig dubbel, Palm Royale, or a Rodenbach, all beers I used to buy at the grocery store in Portland. Please help, also where is a good place to find a Russian Imperial Stout on tap?

Mikey said...

Achel is tough one around here. Though every trappist ale made is available in Utah except for Achel & Westvleteren.

You won't fid any Russian Imperial Stouts available on tap in Utah, but Squatters is releasing Russian Imp Stout in a few weeks called Outer Darkness.

If you can't wait that long Rasputin is in most liquor stores.

Cheers!
